They took the lead through Dries Mertens but Mario Mandzukic nodded Juve level and then added another early in the second half. Napoli’s hopes were effectively dashed when Mario Rui was sent off for a second booking and Leonardo Bonucci completed the scoring. “I was angry with my team because we started strong and took the lead, but then started getting sluggish and allowed Juventus to regain their confidence,” Ancelotti said. “I think the referee made a superficial decision. Mario Rui got the second yellow card after a good long wait to consider it. The two yellows came from the superficiality of the referee. “We need

Mourinho On Pogba Row: No Player Is Bigger Than Man Utd

The 55-year-old was speaking ahead of United's trip to the London Stadium on Saturday to face West Ham United in the Premier League after a turbulent week for the club. Widespread reports in the media on Wednesday suggested that Mourinho had engaged in a row with Pogba regarding his negative comments about the team after last Saturday's disappointing 1-1 draw with Wolves. The 25-year-old playmaker lost his role as vice-captain as a result and was left out of the Red Devils' stunning penalty shootout Carabao Cup defeat against Derby County. Mourinho revealed his stance on the issue in Friday's pre-match press conference, as he told reporters: "No player is bigger than the club and if I'm happy with his work, he plays. If I'm not happy, he doesn't play. "Manch

Manchester United needed a win against the Hammers, after a draw against Wolves and defeat by Derby in the Carabao Cup. But the Red Devils were behind just 5 minutes into the match at London Stadium after Felipe Anderson found the back of the net. Shortly before half time, West Ham doubled their lead when an Andriy Yarmolenko shot was deflected in by Victor Lindelof. United reduced the deficit through Marcus Rashford in the second half but Marko Arnautovic restored the home side’s two-goal advantage. Chelsea vs Liverpool: Steven Gerrard identifies Brazil star as Blues problem

Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, has stated that Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino, will be one man to watch out for as the club face Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday. Describing the player as a ‘genius’ Gerrard added that Liverpool were ‘very close’ to finding the perfect formula. Liverpool are the only team yet to drop a point in the Premier League and also defeated PSG in their Champions League opener at Anfield Metro quoted Gerrard, who now manages Rangers, as saying, “Firmino is an absolute genius when you watch him close up. “He’s as interested in setting up a goal as scoring one. Emery Fears Cech Will Be Out For Three Weeks

Unai Emery expects Petr Cech to be sidelined for up to three weeks after the Arsenal goalkeeper limped off during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Watford. Cech suffered a hamstring injury in the first half at the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal manager Emery fears the former Chelsea star will be sidelined for several weeks. The 36-year-old will be assessed by Arsenal’s medical team on Sunday. “I think it’s a hamstring. Maybe he will miss two or three weeks. I hope not more. We will see tomorrow,” Emery said. If Cech’s injury absence is confirmed, Emery can at least rely on Bernd Leno to prove an able deputy judging by the German’s impressive display against Watford. With Arsenal under the cosh in the second half, Leno made a fine save to deny Troy Deeney and coped well under the Watford bombardment. It was Leno’s first taste of the Premier League after his only other appearances came in the Europa League and League Cup. Emery called on the pre-season signing from Bayer Leverkusen to seiz

Ferdinand says Man United face 'big decisions' after Hammer blow

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said the club faced some “big decisions” over manager Jose Mourinho’s future after a damaging 3-1 loss away to West Ham on Saturday. United’s third defeat in seven Premier League games left them eight points behind leaders Liverpool and three adrift of the top four, with Mourinho’s men now having played one game more than the teams above them in the table. “As a footballer your DNA is about hard work and effort,” said Ferdinand, now a pundit with BT Sport. “I didn’t see that today,” added the former England centre-half, who began his career at West Ham. “I didn’t see them make two or three passes in succession — that’s criminal. “I don’t see enough players working hard to say to the manager ‘this is my place in the team’. You’ve got to work hard and grind and Man Utd didn’t.” And a concerned Ferdinand insisted: “There are some big decisions to be made at United now. There will be c

Cathcart put through his own net with just nine minutes left and Ozil wrapped up the points two minutes later. Arsenal have now won five successive league games for the first time in over a year, with additional victories in the Europa League and League Cup making it a purple patch for new boss Emery. Not for the first time this season, Arsenal, who climb to fifth, could be considered slightly lucky after delivering another inconsistent display. But Emery will take heart from the way they are grinding out results while he continues to rebuild the damage from the final days of the Arsene Wenger era.

Adrian DENNIS / AFP Riyad Mahrez will be pushing for a starting place in Pep Guardiola’s line-up against Brighton as Manchester City’s club record-signing continues to adapt to life at Eastlands. The Algeria winger, signed for £60 million ($79 million, 67 million euros) from Leicester in pre-season, has made a relatively subdued start to life with the Premier League champions. Mahrez has started just two of City’s six league games to date, despite the absence of playmaker Kevin De Bruyne who is expected to be out for a further two months with a knee ligament injury. Guardiola has spoken of players needing time to adapt to his demanding style of play and, in the case of Mahrez, there has also been the upheaval of joining a new club. But after scoring twice after coming off the bench in last weekend’s emphatic 5-0 victory at Cardiff — his first goals since moving to City – Mahrez insisted he is
