Arsenal legend Thierry Henry takes his first training session at Monaco as he begins his managerial career
Thierry Henry took charge of his first training session at Monaco on Monday as he begins his managerial career.
Arsenal legend Henry, a former Monaco player, replaced the axed Leonardo Jardim at the helm of the Ligue 1 club over the weekend.
And with a game against Strasbourg on Saturday to prepare for, the Frenchman was straight into work on the training ground with the struggling Monaco squad.
n footage published on Monaco's social media channels, Henry could be seen briefing his players and giving them instructions for the session.
He also went into the club's under-19 changing room to introduce himself to potential stars of the future, shaking hands with every player.
Henry has a sizeable task on his hands in his first managerial gig. Second in Ligue 1 last season behind only PSG, a poor start this time around has seen Monaco slip into the relegation zone after nine games.
Indeed, after failing to adequately replace the likes of Fabinho and Thomas Lemar over the summer, an unlikely relegation battle could even be on the cards for the Principality club.
But despite his lack of experience as a No 1, Henry has received the backing of France coach Didier Deschamps, who says he does not need any advice ahead of his managerial bow.
'I called him but did not give him any advice,' Deschamps told Telefoot on Sunday.
'Thierry is ready, he has done everything for this moment. He is ready and full of enthusiasm. He has everything to be a good coach.'
Also a target for Aston Villa, the former striker eventually shunned interest from the Championship team to join the French giants.
Henry will hope to get off to a good start when he faces Strasbourg away on Saturday, before making his European debut against Club Brugge on Wednesday.
